The Department of Public Works has established the following policy regarding neighborhood block parties. Click here for policy agreement
The Director of the Department of Public Works, 2951 Greenfield Road, Dearborn, MI. 48120, must receive a written request and petition for the block party. The request must include the name of the Sponsor of the block party, the date and the time of the block party as well as an alternate date in the event of bad weather (rain date). As Sponsor, also include your name, address, telephone number, streets to be barricaded and the cross streets involved. Click here to fill out request form
The petition must have the signatures and addresses of at least 50 percent of the residents on the streets to be barricaded. The original petition will be valid for five years and a new petition will have to be submitted every five years thereafter. (However, if complaints are received from citizens at any time, you will be required to submit a new petition).
To coordinate the activities of other departments/divisions involved with this event, our Department must receive advance written notice/petition at least 72 hours prior to your scheduled block party date. Late notifications may be denied.
The Sponsor will be charged a non-refundable Permit Fee of $10 and a refundable $60 Barricade Rental Deposit. Our Department will provide barricades. You may pick up and return the barricades at the Greenfield Yard, 2951 Greenfield Road, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the Friday before and return them the following Monday by 4 p.m. The barricades must be returned on time and in satisfactory condition or you will be charged $60 for each barricade that is missing or damaged. Late fees will be $10 per day. If not returned by the fifth day (the following Friday) you will be charged the full value of the barricades.
(When closing off streets, do not block street access with a motor vehicle, picnic tables, trash receptacles, etc. Only city issued barricades may be used for this purpose.)
Any questions or concerns regarding this Policy should be directed to the Department of Public Works at 313-943-2085.
