Now Open for Dearborn residents.
- The Dearborn Dog Parked opened August 19, 2017 and is divided into two areas, one for larger animals weighing more than 30 pounds and the other for smaller dogs.
- Each area is enclosed with a fence and accessible only through a gate, which will restrict entry to dog owners who have paid a fee for using the facility.
- Each area is equipped with benches, dog waste bags and waste disposal stations, water access and unique dog agility equipment.
The dog agility equipment—which includes adjustable jump bars, elevated agility walk platforms, walk ramps, hurdles, teeter totters, and barrels—is the result of a very generous $15,000 donation from the Oakwood Group, a Dearborn-based company founded in 1945.
Dog Park Permit/Applications
Use of the dog park requires a permit, available at the City Clerk’s Office for $30. Owners seeking a permit must supply proof of Dearborn residency, a copy of the dog’s license, documentation that the dog has been neutered/spayed, and proof of current vaccinations. Dog Park Rules
All Dog Park rule must be adhered to at all times.
Fines for violating the rules start at $100.
- Dogs in the park must be accompanied by a human handler at least 16 years old. Canines are allowed to play off the leash, but must wear a collar or harness with their Dearborn dog tags. The humans also must carry a leash in case the dog needs restraining and to walk the pet to and from the entrance of the dog park.
- One person may bring no more than two dogs. Children under 16 are not allowed in the Dog Park unless accompanied by an adult.
- Dogs need to be up to date on their immunizations including rabies, DHLLP or DAPPL, and bordatella, and they are not allowed in the park if they have a contagious condition, including parasites or disease, or with a fresh wound.
- Each dog’s handler is still required to properly remove and dispose of animal waste. People visiting the park are also responsible for reporting rule violations to the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center or the Police Department.
- Items not allowed in the dog park include any food for people or dogs, tobacco products, alcohol, glass containers, dog toys, pets besides dogs, and skateboards, bicycles, scooters or other wheeled devices. Wheelchairs are permitted for those with physical disabilities.
- Dog owners/handlers must not let their use of electronic devices interfere with their ability to monitor their dog’s behavior.

As part of this project, the Recreation & Parks Department is seeking volunteers for its Dog Park Support Committee, which will work with the department in (1) monitoring and enforce the rules and regulations governing the use of the facility, (2) maintaining and cleaning the facility, and (3) responding to residents’ feedback concerning the park.
