Public invited to Mayor O'Reilly's
State of the City Address on March 10

SOC-3_thumbDearborn Mayor John B. O'Reilly, Jr. will deliver his annual State of the City Address at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10 at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Avenue. The public is invited. Light refreshments will be served after the address.


Public Service Days begin April 5,
occur every week through Dec. 3

Parked vehicles must be off streets 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
during each neighborhood's trash collection day

PublicServicethumbThe City of Dearborn will begin the 2010 season for Public Service Days during the week of April 5.
Note that in 2010, Public Service Days will be every week April 5 through Dec. 3, so neighborhoods get services, like street-sweeping, delivered to them in an even more effective manner. Public Service Days are the same day as trash collection days in each neighborhood, every week. In 2010, Public Service Days also start one hour later, to be more convenient for residents. The new start time is 8 a.m.
Tickets will be issued to owners of parked vehicles left on the streets during Public Service Days. Click here for more information or call 943-2886.

Mail back your 10-question form by April 1

In mid-March, the U.S. Census Bureau will mail a short, 10-question form to every household in Dearborn, and across the United States.
Please complete and mail your completed Census questionnaire by April 1. Census workers will visit households that do not return forms.
Answers from individuals are kept completely confidential, by law.
A complete and accurate count is essential to ensure that Dearborn receives all the federal funds we are entitled to, and help continue to support a great quality of life for everyone in Dearborn. Our state's representation in the U.S. House of Representatives also is determined by census data. Whether you live in an apartment, condo, or single home in Dearborn, or you are sharing a home with a relative or friend in Dearborn, you need to fill out a census form. Census forms and explanations of how to complete the census questionnaire are available in a variety of languages. To pick up forms or get help with completing your census questionnaire, visit one of the Questionnaire Assistance Centers in Dearborn, which will operate from March 19-April 19, 2010. Hours vary by location.

Curbside yard waste collection begins April 5

Residents can begin putting yard waste at the curb for pick up on their regular trash collection day beginning on Monday, April 5.
The curbside yard waste collection program runs until Dec. 3, 2010.
Yard waste may be placed loose in 20-32 gallon containers with a yard waste sticker on the lid or yard waste paper bags. Note that yard waste in plastic bags will not be picked up.



Free disposal at the DPW Yard third
Saturday of each month: Next date is March 20

The Department of Public Works yard is open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month for residents to dispose of furniture and other non-hazardous household materials that normally would require a special fee for curbside pickup.
Other items accepted at the DPW Yard are dirt, sod, sand, concrete and bricks; firewood, logs and stumps; bathtubs, laundry tubs, sinks and toilets.
The remaining Saturday dates for 2010 are: March 20, April 17, May 15, June 19, July 17, Aug. 21, Sept. 18, Oct. 16, Nov. 20 and Dec. 18. The yard is at 2951 Greenfield, south of I-94.
A partial list of materials not accepted follows: fuel, tires, ammunition, refrigerators, microwaves or other appliances.
Note that hazardous materials are not accepted at the DPW Yard or at the curbside.

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal
Day offered by Wayne County March 27

Dispose of household hazardous waste for free on Saturday, March 27 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Redford Township Public Services, 12200 Beech Daly Road, sponsored by Wayne County. Call 734-326-3936. Dearborn residents may dispose of household hazardous waste at events sponsored by Wayne County Department of Public Services.
Note that the City of Dearborn is not planning any hazardous waste disposal dates for 2010, so residents should take advantage of the County events.
Proof of Wayne County residency is required to dispose of items.

The Wayne County Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention Program (MFPP) is available at no cost. It is designed for Wayne County residents, including those in Dearborn, who are having difficulty meeting their current mortgage payments or are in any stage of the foreclosure process.
The MFPP offers an expansive network of certified counselors whose solid relationships with lenders allow them to provide secure, confidential and competent assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure.
The MFPP eliminates the confusion many homeowners experience that make them walk away from their homes before they have examined all of their options.

Michigan Avenue roadwork
expected middle of March

In the middle of March 2010, weather permitting, Ajax Paving, the contractor retained by M-DOT, will start resurfacing Michigan Avenue from Nowlin to east of Brady. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained. The roadway will be resurfaced with two layers of asphalt surface. Look for more details in the future at www.cityofdearborn.org
