Public Service Days begin the week of April 5. To avoid a ticket, remove your parked vehicle from the street on your trash day, every week from now until Dec. 3. Parked vehicles must be off the street from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This allows the City to deliver services, like street cleaning, more efficiently.
The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to kick off a $2.1-million resurfacing of the Michigan Avenue Outer Drive and Brady Street beginning April 5. It will reduce the avenue to one lane each way — a move MDOT said will allow it to speed up the project so it can be finished in mid-July.
MDOT spokesman Rob Morosi said drivers should expect delays. Because the road won’t close completely, the state won’t post a detour, but drivers are encouraged to seek alternates. Access to local streets along that stretch of Michigan will be maintained.

It is a sure sign of spring. Put your yard waste at the curb on your trash day beginning the week of April 5. Yard waste may be placed loose in 20-32 gallon containers with a yard waste sticker on the lid or yard waste paper bags. Do not use plastic bags. They won’t be picked up.
The Police Department and Rusko’s Towing will take away any unwanted vehicles on residential property for free during the month of April. Have the title? Sign it over to Rusko’s. Don’t have a valid title? The Police Department will work with you to have the vehicle towed. Either way, call the department at 943-2259.
A proposal has been developed to continue to offer outdoor swimming at the largest pool in Dearborn, Dunworth Pool at Levagood Park; and at Ford Woods pool, for the 2010 season. In addition, the City, working with the Dearborn Public Schools, will offer indoor summer swimming at Smith, Salina and Stout schools. It is hoped a new, modern outdoor pool will be built at Ford Woods Park for the 2011 season, to accommodate more swimmers. Swimming is also available year-round at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center.
However, the plan is to close and demolish the remaining six neighborhood pools in the summer of 2010. This will save $133,000 in operational costs and $3.8 million in capital improvement costs to keep the 50-year-old pools in a safe and lasting condition. An informational meeting will be held soon on the proposal. In the meantime, other difficult budget decisions are likely as the City faces up to a $20 million shortfall for the budget year that starts July 1. Read more details at www.cityofdearborn.org
