The Building & Safety Department is here to help. Permits allow
city inspectors to ensure work is being performed properly and according
to all applicable building and safety codes, for the protection of
you and your family. Inspections also help ensure that minimum standards
are met, which protects property values for you and your neighbors.

How Much Does a Permit Cost?
There is a $60 minimum fee for permits, plus $10 per $1,000 of construction
cost for projects over $2,000. Permits for residential sheds, concrete
flatwork and fences are $50.
How Long Does it Take for a Permit to be Processed?
Applications and plans are reviewed for compliance with current building
codes and city ordinances. It takes approximately 10-15 working days
for the application review process to be completed, depending upon
the complexity of the project. Applications for residential concrete
flatwork from licensed contractors are processed within 24 hours.
Certain "remove and replace" applications are processed
immediately, as long as applications are filled out accurately and
completely.
Can I Apply for a Homeowner's Permit to Perform Work on my
Home?
Property owners may obtain permits; however, applicants must speak
to the appropriate inspector to ensure knowledge of the project before
a permit is issued. Property owners should read the "Property

What Information is Required if I Want to Install a Privacy
Fence or a Swimming Pool or a Shed or a Deck?
All permit applications are complete with specific instructions.

How do I Know What Inspections are Required and How do I
Schedule Them?
Required inspections are listed on permit application forms and on
issued permits. Permit inspections are scheduled by calling the 24-hour
Automated Scheduling System at 313/943-2400. You must have your permit
number and know the inspection code (listed on the permit).
