one time during the year (mid-May) when employees may
change insurance carriers. You will receive a letter a few weeks prior.
If my spouse loses his job and our medical coverage,
can I, as a City employee, pick up coverage through the City?
Yes, You will then be eligible to obtain coverage through
the City of Dearborn, you must immediately provide payroll with back-up
information on company letterhead, stating the circumstances (layoff,
death, etc.).
How much is the City' annual budget?
The City' annual budget varies from year to year.

How can I get a copy of the City' Annual
Financial Report?
Both documents are available at the Finance Department
in the West Annex of the City Hall. The cost per document is $15, which
covers the cost of printing and handling.
Where can I buy a City Bond?
City bonds can be purchased by calling your investment
broker. The City does not sell bonds directly on the retail market.
Sometimes City bonds are purchased by an Institution and are never available
on the retail market. The Finance Department can take your name, address
and telephone number and can notify you when the next bond issue is
scheduled to occur.

The City posts bid opportunities on the MITN web site
www.govbids.com. This site allows
vendors to register (either free or a subscription charge) and view
the City of Dearborn opportunities as well as those of other governmental
agencies.

What are summer and winter tax bills for?
The summer tax bill includes the school tax, city tax and the county allocated operating tax. The winter tax bill includes the remainder of the county taxes.
When are taxes due?
Summer taxes are due July 1 st, but you have until September 14 th to pay without penalty. Winter taxes are due December 1 st, but you have until February 14 th to pay without penalty.
Is there an additional charge for paying in payments?
There is a $3.00 charge to pay your taxes in payments.
Can I pay partial payments on my taxes?
Beginning in 2008 the City charter allows summer taxes to be paid in three payments. To be eligible for the payment plan, the first payment must be paid on or before September 14 th. Winter taxes must be paid in full.
What are the payment plan due dates?
To be eligible for payment:
The first payment must be paid by September 14 th.
The second payment is due November 14 th.
The third payment is due January 14 th.
Will my bank accept my payment?
Each financial institution determines whether or not it will accept tax payments from its customers. If you wish to pay your property tax bill at your bank, you should contact them to make sure they provide that service.
Will you accept a postmark?
We do not accept postmarks. Payments must be received in the Treasurer’s Office on or before the due dates.
Can I pay by credit card?
Currently no, however, the City plans to allow payments by debit/credit cards online in the near future.
Can I pay more than one bill on my check?
Yes, you may pay multiple bills with one check. Please make sure to include your bills with your payment or indicate exactly what you are paying to ensure proper credit to your account.
Why do I pay all my property taxes to the City of Dearborn?
The City of Dearborn is the tax collector for both the Dearborn Public Schools and Wayne County. The monies collected by the city are disbursed to the proper entity.
How can I make an address or name change on my tax bill?
A written request is required for any name or address changes to a tax bill. You may send a request in writing or come into the Assessors’ Office to complete a change of name/address form.
