The first part of February, 2000, the Dearborn Fire
Department held a training session on Ice Rescue. In this training,
three different areas were covered. There was a familiarization of safety
equipment and safety procedures to be followed. Next, members from our
Tech Rescue Team learned methods of approaching openings in the ice.
Firefighters took turns using the ice water rescue suits. Finally, a
mock ice water rescue was performed.

The first part of November, 1999, the Dearborn Fire Department
held a very good training session on school buses. In this training
three different areas were covered. There was a familiarization of safety
equipment and construction of school buses by Board of Education personnel.
Next, members from our Extrication Team learned methods of opening up
school buses from Battalion Chief Gillett and FFI Cunningham. Firefighter
Cunningham had attended a school on school bus extrication. Finally,
the school bus was set on fire and Class "A" firefighting
foam was used to extinguish the fire. School bus drivers from many school
districts attended the training.
