Preparing for Disaster
The Dearborn Office of Emergency Management
Family Preparedness Guide

The focus of this Preparedness Guide is simple. This guide offers tools to the residents' of Dearborn to help prepare themselves for the multiple types of emergencies that may impact the City of Dearborn, when they occur.

Living in Dearborn, we are vulnerable to disasters such as:

Dearborn residents are fortunate to have experienced local emergency services that work closely together to bring the residents of this city an effective emergency response system. Throughout the city, emergency response agencies have been successful in the past, and are constantly working for, and evaluating the needs of the community to prepare themselves for whatever disaster, may take place.

The citizens of Dearborn can rely on the fact the emergency response agencies plan for these types of disasters. However, as effective as they are in preparing for these types of events, in cannot replace individual preparedness. It is recommended by the Dearborn Office of Emergency Management that you plan to be on your own for a minimum of 72 hours. You are not being asked to deal with these emergencies alone, but the individual preparedness will allow the necessary time for emergency service agencies to reach you.

We feel that in light of recent disasters that have taken place, this "project" is important, as well as timely. We strongly encourage our residents to read this preparedness guide and follow the simple steps, which are outlined. Once you have prepared yourselves and your families, take time to share this with your neighbors. When a disaster strikes they will probably be the first ones to come to your aid, and you to their aid.

Please remember to review this guide and your family's preparedness plan every six months. For additional information, call the Office of Emergency Management at 313- 943-5470.
