Krups coffeemakers may overheat, ignite baskets

Krups North America is recalling about 218,000 automatic drip coffeemakers because an electrical connection in the appliances can overheat and ignite the filter basket supports.

The coffeemakers were sold under the Krups brand name. The 10-cup coffeemakers have a switch for selecting 1 to 3 cups to 4 to 10 cups, and a "Stop N' Serve" feature. Model 398 with a black or white exterior and model 405 with a simulated wood-grain exterior are included in this recall. The model numbers are on the bottom of the coffeemaker.

Department, appliance and specialty stores nationwide sold the coffeemakers from January 1996 through April 2000.
