Where can I get a mammogram? I have no insurance or funds.

Those 40 years of age and over may call the Detroit Health Department at 876.0869. Mammograms are free to those with little or no funds and no insurance. Those under age 40 may also call 876.0869, however, there is a sliding-scale fee.

Where can I get medical attention? I have no insurance or funds.

ACCESS, 6450 Maple in Dearborn will see patients at $10 per office visit, including services. Clients must meet income guidelines and provide proof of income. For information, call 216.2200, or fax 313.584.3226.

Where can I take a CPR class?

Classes are available through the American Red Cross. The fee varies from $26 for adult CPR to $33 for community CPR (includes infant CPR). For more information, call 274.5450.

Where can I apply for Medicaid and what is the procedure?

Non-residents call the Michigan Department of Social Services, 313.256.1000. The procedure depends on the county in which you live.

Is the dental clinic available to non-residents?

The dental clinic is available only to qualified Dearborn residents. For information, call 943. 943-2095.

Where can I be tested for AIDS or other STDs?

Tests are given at the Wayne County Health Department, Merriman Road, just north of Michigan Avenue. An appointment is required. Testing is free and the results are available in approximately 10 days. The information is confidential and you need to give only a first name. Results are given verbally, however, if you desire a card stating the results, you must give your full name. For an appointment or more information, call 734.727.7260. Other locations for AIDS tests are: Dearborn (ACCESS), Hamtramck, Highland Park, Inkster, Lincoln Park and Taylor. The Wayne County Health Department (734.727.7260) will furnish addresses and phone numbers for these locations.

I am an adult Dearborn resident and need a physical exam for employment purposes. Where can I receive this service at a low cost?

The ACCESS Center, 6450 Maple Street, accepts clients on a walk-in basis or by appointment. They accept all insurances. If no insurance, the fee is $10 if a pay stub is presented. For those that are not employed, there is a sliding-scale fee which is based on ability to pay. Call 216.2200 for more information.

The Midwest Health Center at 5050 Schaefer has an Occupational Medicine Clinic. Employment physicals are available 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. seven days a week, including holidays. The cost for a physical is $25 and a drug screen is $25 if needed. Call 581.2600 for more information.

My child is ill. Where can I receive free or low-cost medical help for him/her?

Midwest Health Center, 5050 Schaefer, has a Pediatric Clinic. The hours are Monday and Thursday, 8 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. The cost is $35 - $45. Some insurance policies are accepted. If no insurance, the business office will evaluate the client for a reduced fee. Call 581.6800 for more information.

Oakwood Hospital Pediatric Clinic, 18101 Oakwood Blvd, is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. by appointment only. Some insurance policies are accepted, including Medicaid. Visits are billed, so no cash is needed at the time of appointment. An office call is $50. For more information, call 593.7240.

Does Dearborn have a Crisis Center?

No, there is not a crisis center in Dearborn. The Dearborn Health Department refers callers who need crisis intervention to Detroit Receiving Hospital, 745.3540.

Do you recommend Dearborn dentists and doctors?

The Ameritech Yellow Pages lists dentists and physicians according to specialty and location. For a physician referral, contact Wayne County Medical Society, 567.1640; Oakwood Hospital Physician Referral, 800.543.9355; Henry Ford Health System Physician Selection Service, 800.653.6568; and Detroit Medical Center Physician Referral, 745.6035.

The Tri-County Dental at 248.559.7767 will make a referral to a dentist in a specific area if the person has no income, low-income or if the person is a Medicaid recipient.

Where can I obtain a health certificate for a marriage license?

Dearborn Health Department, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The fee is $8/person (resident), $10/person (non-resident). Also, Wayne County Health Department has various sites to obtain the certificates, evening and weekend hours. For site locations, call 734.727.7000.

Where can I get a pregnancy test and/or birth control information?

Wayne County Health Department offers clinics based on sliding scale of income for pregnancy testing. For more information, call the Westland location, 4673133, or the downriver location, 734.727.7000.

Planned Parenthood of Southeast Michigan offers pregnancy testing and birth control based on a sliding scale according to income at various sites. For information, call 961.7370.

ACCESS Center offers pregnancy testing. Office visit is $10 and there is a small fee for the lab test. An appointment is necessary for pregnancy testing. Call 216.2200 for more information/appointment.

Where can I get a flu shot?

Dearborn Health Department, Mondays and Tuesdays, beginning the first week in October through the last week of December when supplies are available.

Some private physicians give flu shots. Medicare B covers the cost of the injection, but there may be an office visit charge.

The major grocery chains also offer the flu immunizations (cost determined by the individual chain).
