Kurt Giberson
was appointed director of the City’s Department of Public
Works by Michael A. Guido in 1992.
He is a graduate of Dearborn High School, received his bachelor’s
degree from Wayne State University and completed post-graduate
work at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
Before becoming Director of Public Works, Giberson was the director
of the City’s Communications Department for five years.
During that time he oversaw Dearborn’s 9-1-1 police and
fire emergency dispatching system, traffic signals and radio and
telephone systems.
Prior to that appointment, Giberson served as the City’s
telecommunications coordinator, overseeing Dearborn’s government
access cable television station. Before joining the City, Giberson
served as the government production coordinator for Group W Cable,
and as general manager of the personnel firm of Cambridge Engineering.
In 2005, Giberson was appointed by the director of the Michigan
Department of Environmental Quality to serve on the state-wide
Environmental Advisory Council. Giberson also serves as chairperson
of the Alliance of Rouge (Rouge River) Communities, and chairperson
of the Main Three-Four Branch of the Rouge River Sub-Watershed
Advisory Group.
Giberson is past president of the Michigan chapter of the National
Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA).
He is also a past member of NATOA’s national board of directors,
and served as chairperson of the board’s technology committee.
He is also a member of the American Public Works Association (APWA),
and the Downriver Branch of the APWA.
Giberson is past president of the Exchange Club of Dearborn, and
has served as a board member of the Fairlane Family YMCA. He also
served as chairperson of the YMCA’s "Invest in Youth"
campaign, and has served as an Explorer Scout post leader.
He has also been listed in the "Who’s Who of Emerging
Leaders in America" and "Outstanding Young Men of America."
