Public hearing on sewer project June 21

city_sealwebThe City of Dearborn will hold a public hearing on the proposed separation of the City of Dearborn CSO areas 001, 002, 003, 004 & 005 on the west side of the city for the purpose of receiving comments from interested persons.

The hearing will be held at 5 p.m. on June 21, 2011 at the following location:

The City of Dearborn Council Chambers, 13615 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn Michigan 48126.

The purpose of the proposed project is to provide sewer separation of CSO areas 001, 002, 003, 004 & 005 that are located in the west side of the City of Dearborn.

This construction work will eliminate the discharge of combined wastewater to the Rouge River from these areas.  These separation projects are part of an overall combined sewer overflow program for the city that includes both separation and CSO treatment facilities to reduce and treat the discharges of combined wastewater to the Rouge River.

Project work will involve the construction of new storm sewers in some areas to provide conveyance of the stormwater to the Rouge River, and new sanitary sewers in other areas so that the wastewater is conveyed to treatment.

Impacts of the proposed project include sewer and road reconstruction in the areas that are being separated.  These construction impacts are temporary in nature during the construction activities, but will result in a reduction in the discharge of combined sewer overflows to the Rouge River.

The estimated construction cost for the proposed projects will be $85 million.

Copies of the plan detailing the proposed project are available for inspection at the following location(s):

Office of the City Engineer, 4500 Maple Road, Dearborn, Michigan 48126.

Written comments received before the hearing record is closed on June 21, 2011 will receive responses in the final project plan.  Written comments should be sent to: Mr. Yunus Patel, City Engineer, 4500 Maple Road, Dearborn, Michigan 48126.
