Even though it is a Holiday for many, Dearborn’s new trash and recycle pickups begin Monday, July 5 at 7 a.m. Residents are reminded to begin using their new 96-gallon grey trash carts. 

It is also a recycle week for those residents in a “B” section.The new green recycle carts have an A or B section designation at the front of the recycle cart lid.  A yearly recycle calendar sticker is on the inside of the recycle cart lid.  A paper recycle calendar and City recycle map were also included in residents’ education material which was initially delivered with each cart.  City offices will be closed on Monday for the holiday weekend but regular trash and recycle pickups will take place.  For example, Monday pickups will take place on Monday. There is no delay.  Changes residents will see include recycling taking place every other week. Collection times may change.  It is important to have carts at curbs no later than 7 a.m. the morning of pickup.  In addition, because Republic Services uses an automated system one side of the street will be picked up first. It may take some time for the truck to return to pick up from carts on the opposite side of the street.  But all carts in specific sections will be emptied before the end of the day.  The City of Dearborn continues to encourage residents with demonstrated physical hardships or anyone having problems with the new 96-gallon carts delivered to their homes to phone 943-2085. City staff will put your address on a list for either special assistance or to simply request a smaller 64-gallon cart.  The list will be addressed in the order of greatest need but everyone will have the opportunity to receive assistance.
