Dearborn Fire Department Fire Cadet Program

Overview

•The Dearborn Fire Cadet Program was established in 2006 to give young men and women an opportunity to experience what it is like to be a firefighter.

•Dearborn Fire Cadets are given the opportunity to participate in training sessions right next to full time professional firefighters.

•The fire cadets are involved in many community-wide training sessions such as hospital disaster drills and decontamination sessions.

•Upon completion of a six month training session the fire cadets are given the opportunity to ride-a-long with professional firefighters on real life emergency runs.

•Dearborn Fire Cadets are highly involved in the Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive, donating their time for the betterment of the community.

Requirements

•Fire cadet applicants must be between the ages of 17 to 21.

•Fire cadets must be actively pursuing educational requirements to be a career firefighter. All Dearborn Fire Cadets are required to complete a six month training period in which they meet bi-weekly for a two hour “hands on” training session.

•All fire cadets must complete 100 hours of community service every year while they are in the program.

•Fire cadets must be physically fit and able to meet the requirements of typical firefighting duties.
