Police Hiring Process
All applications are reviewed by the Human Resources/Police Department. The selection process will continue for those candidates who meet established criteria. The process includes a thorough background investigation and an oral board interview.
Those candidates who successfully complete oral boards and background investigations are eligible for consideration and will be interviewed by the Police Chief. The police Chief will make conditional job offers to selected candidates who will then be referred for medical and psychological examinations. Assuming successful completion of all remaining steps in this process, a start date will be established.
At the discretion of the Police Chief, those recruits who have not yet completed a police academy will be enrolled in conjunction with their start date. However, the City of Dearborn reserves the right to select certified and certifiable candidates preferentially. Starting pay is $44,706 annually, with a maximum salary of $63,183 after 48 months of employment.
