The Support Services Division consists of specialized bureaus that address a wide spectrum of police services. The functions of these bureaus range from basic public services to the more police-oriented operations in support of the Patrol Division. Diversity and flexibility are the primary requisites of the personnel assigned to the Support Services Division.

Bureau of Information and Technology

Oversees all technical and computer related issues and works closely with the City of Dearborn MIS Department in implementation, development and advancement in such issues. The bureau combines the working knowledge of a police officer and IT skills to apply new technological advancements to the police department. This unit also works closely with CLEMIS (Courts Law Enforcement Management and Information System) which services over 100 police agencies in several counties.

Training Office

Neighborhood Watch - The City of Dearborn has initiated a Neighborhood Watch Program. Neighborhood Watch is a community crime prevention program, which enlists the active participation of citizens in cooperation with the Dearborn Police Department. Its purpose is to reduce crime, create an alert neighborhood, and facilitate the reporting of suspicious activity. Please call (313) 943-3030 to report ANY SUSPCIOUS ACTIVITY, 24 hours a day.

• Training - Provides for the training needs of all police personnel within the department, including making all arrangements to send employees to classes and seminars anywhere in the country. Also, provides instructional classes for Ordinance Enforcement Officers, Fairlane Town Center Security Police Officers, Reserve Officers, Explorers, Ford Motor Company & Conrail Security members and Police Recruits.
• Grant Writing - Applies for the majority of the grant funding and responsible for grant management for the entire department.
• Crime Prevention - Provide on site talks with members and organizations of the community.
• Reserves - A volunteer program, the Reserve Program is comprised of 34 members and provides countless hours of volunteer service to the community by assisting the police department with many activities including: special events, surveillance, house checks, and freeway patrol.
• Recruiting - Working throughout the year with the City of Dearborn's Department of Human Resources the training office actively recruits around the State. The Recruiter strives to get the best possible police employees and continually attends graduate classes at reputable colleges specializing in police curriculum to seek out these quality applicants. Also, the Recruiter provides new officers with their required equipment, training, and administers and coordinates the Field Training Officer and Evaluation Program and regulates the recruit officer/FTO assignments.
• Firearms Range - All sworn members of the Dearborn Police Department who are authorized to carry a weapon must be both knowledgeable on when and how to use the weapon that they carry as well as being proficient with their assigned weapon. All officers are required to qualify with their assigned weapons on a semi-annual basis. The Range Master sets up the qualification and training courses for the department.
• Community Preparedness - Established to address safety and security issues which directly affect the citizens of Dearborn. Working in conjunction with State and Federal Agencies, as well as the Dearborn Fire Departments Emergency Management Staff, the Community Preparedness office works diligently to ensure an adequate infrastructure of security in case of disasters or emergencies.
• Dearborn Explorer Post 1177 - This program is an extension of the 'Boy Scouts of America' and is for young adults from the age of 14 - 21 years. The Explorers provide assistance at various police activities and functions.
• Community Policing - Office acts as a liason between the community and the police department. The Community Policing Office is located within Esper Library at 12929 W. Warren, Dearborn, MI 48126. They can be reached at 313-943-2800

Records & Identification Bureau

Headed up by a Lieutenant the records section is staffed by civilian personal. All department reports, permits and licenses are forwarded to the Record Bureau for final processing.

The day to day functions of the Record Bureau include many services to the community and general public. Fingerprinting services for job applicants, business organizations, and adoptions are provided as well as processing applicants for taxi licenses and permits to purchase handguns. The Record Bureau is also required to process all money received for bonds, vehicle towing and impounding fees.

Our department has transitioned to the new Michigan Incident Crime Reporting (MICR) program. The new system provides a tremendous amount of information to State and Federal agencies.

Liquor Enforcement

Regulates the sale of alcohol and permits required throughout the City of Dearborn.

Special Events Coordinator

All large city functions that need additional police services are reviewed by the Special Events Unit. Here it is determined what involvement is needed by the Dearborn Police Department to ensure a safe event.
