State of the City 2017

In keeping with Dearborn’s spirit of innovation, Mayor John B. O’Reilly Jr. launched a new approach with his 2017 State of the City Address by changing formats to be respectful of people’s busy lives and to reach them where they are already getting a lot of their news — on social media.

Rather than hosting a formal ceremony to present the annual address, Mayor O’Reilly rolled out his report to the community over five nights in February. The five short videos reflect areas of interest to residents and programs in which the most city resources are directed:

  • Fire Department
  • Police Department
  • Economic Development
  • Neighborhoods
  • The vision for Positioning the City for a Bright Future

“To me, the messages are more important than a ceremonial event, so I want to make it as easy as possible for residents to tune into what interests them. Our new approach seems a better way to do that,” Mayor O'Reilly said.

The video format also is accompanied by a printed publication which includes additional informative information. To learn more about the progress made over the past year in Dearborn:
