Dearborn Community Arts Council presents Michigan
Book Artists at the Padzieski Gallery, March 13-April 26
Dearborn- Dearborn’s Padzieski Gallery – the City’s
free public art gallery – will host an exhibition featuring artwork
from five Michigan artists entitled Michigan Book Artists: Between the
Covers.
The exhibition opens on Thursday, March 13, and runs through Saturday,
April 26. The exhibit’s free opening reception is on March 13
from 7-8:30 p.m. at the gallery. The Padzieski Gallery is located in
Dearborn’s Ford Community and Performing Arts Center; The Center
is located at 15801 Michigan Avenue (corner of Greenfield Road).
Artists’ books are works of art realized in the form of a book.
They are usually published in small editions, though sometimes they
are one-of-a-kind objects. Artists’ books have employed a wide
range of forms, including scrolls, fold-outs or loose items contained
in a box. Michigan Book Artists: Between the Covers will explore the
history, methods and materials used in this unique and expressive art
form.
The invited Michigan book artists include: Eric Alstrom of Okemos,
a book artist, binder and conservator who has been involved in the book
arts since 1989; Barbara Brown of Ann Arbor, an artist and teacher who
has studied fine binding and the book arts for more than 15 years; Alvey
Jones of Ann Arbor, who has worked professionally as an artist, graphic
designer and illustrator; Benjamin Reynaert of Ann Arbor, who has attended
the Rhode Island School of Design and interned for the Center of Book
Arts in New York City; and Marsha Wright of Howell, who has studied
printmaking and photography and received her M.F.A. from Wayne State
University.
Two workshops focusing on bookmaking techniques will be taught by Brown
and Reynaert at The Center during the exhibition in April. For more
