Camp Dearborn to celebrate 60th anniversary
on July 19 with an all-day party – everyone’s invited
Camp Dearborn turns 60 this year. To celebrate, a daylong party will
be held on Saturday, July 19.
Everyone’s invited, not just residents of Dearborn. People from
all over southeastern Michigan have visited, worked at – and
even gotten married at – Camp Dearborn. And if you’ve
never been there, the anniversary party is a great way to discover
this public recreation gem.
Created in 1947, Camp Dearborn is unique: a 626-acre recreation and
camping oasis that’s located in Milford but owned by the City
of Dearborn and open to the public.
To mark Camp Dearborn’s 60th anniversary, the City of Dearborn
– in cooperation with the Friends of Camp Dearborn and other
local groups of former Camp employees and boosters – is organizing
the July 19 celebration.
A complete schedule of events is being worked out now. The celebration
will include a wide variety of activities: some possibilities now
being considered range from reunions of former Camp lifeguards and
“greenshirts” to a classic car show, a bonfire, a corn
roast, a “swim-in” movie on the beach and a series of
games and contests.
A confirmed highlight of the event will be an evening outdoor concert
and dance, with The Reflections performing.
For complete details about the event as they become available, visit
the special Camp Dearborn anniversary celebration page located on
the City of Dearborn’s official website: www.cityofdearborn.org.
Click on the special icon that’s prominently displayed on the
home page of the website, which will take you to the anniversary celebration
page.
As details of the event become available in coming months, new information
will be posted on the anniversary page. People are urged to check
the page periodically for the new information.
