Public works services made impact in 2006.
Here’s a review of some of the many services provided by Dearborn’s
Department of Public Works in 2006.
RUBBISH AND RECYCLING –
Every homeowner enjoyed the curbside rubbish, recycling and yard
waste removal. A one-day event to collect household hazardous waste
served approximately 500 residents.
STREET SWEEPING, LEAF REMOVAL, SNOW PLOWING –
City streets were swept and flushed every other week from about
mid-April to mid-October. Crews conducted three sweeps through every
neighborhood to collect loose leaves in the fall. During the winter,
3,000 tons of salt were spread on the streets.
IMPROVEMENTS TO STREETS AND SIDEWALKS –
A total of 1.57 miles of asphalt-paved City streets were resurfaced,
almost three miles of concrete pavement was reconstructed, and more
than 45,000 square yards of asphalt and concrete pavement were repaired.
More than 355,000 square feet of new sidewalks and driveway aprons
were constructed, and 18 miles of public streets received new paint
striping.
Francis, Edison and Gregory streets from Monroe to Beech were reconstructed
and new water main and storm relief sewers were constructed. Roemer
Street from Michigan Avenue to Hubbard was reconstructed and new
water main and storm relief sewers were constructed.
Barrie street from Donald to Warren, Morrow Circle South from Esper
to Miller, and Howard from Michigan Avenue to Garrison were resurfaced
and new water mains were constructed.
Korte and Westland streets from Michigan to Palmer and Driscoll
from Korte to Westland were reconstructed, along with new water
main and storm sewers. Palmer Street from Michigan Avenue to Colson
