Free diabetes management seminars offered
in Dearborn on June 7 and June 28
More than 20.8 million children and adults in the United States have
diabetes and ethnic minorities are more at-risk for developing the disease
than whites.
To help Metro Detroiters of all races better manage the disease, the
American Diabetes Association and Great Lakes Medical Supply are holding
two diabetes management seminars. The seminars are free and open to
the public. They take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Dearborn’s
Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Avenue (corner
of Greenfield), on Saturday, June 7, and again on Saturday, June 28.
Diabetes Review, presented by Great Lakes Medical Supply, is designed
to educate people with the disease about proper diabetes self-care.
Diabetes Review is for people newly diagnosed with the disease and anyone
who already has diabetes.
A certified diabetes educator will speak to participants about diet,
exercise, medications, stress, the importance of glucose testing and
the importance of A1C testing. At the completion of Diabetes Review,
participants will be encouraged to find out more about the disease through
the enrollment in one of the many ADA-recognized programs throughout
Michigan.
