Victorian Gardening at the Dearborn Historical Museum
The Dearborn Historical Museum’s McFadden-Ross House will be
hosting an exhibit on Victorian Gardening on Wednesday, April 2, at
7:30 p.m. GWN Garden Center Manager, Julia Hofley, will explore the
delights of parlor gardening during the 1800s.
Topics will include bulb forcing as an indoor sport, ferns and palms
standing at the pinnacle of good taste, and the risks that plant hunters
took when delivering exotic plants to status seeking Victorians.
This event will demonstrate the exciting and sometimes dangerous nature
involved with Victorian gardening. Donations will be accepted.
The McFadden-Ross House contains rooms depicting Dearborn at the turn-of-the-century
and changing exhibit cases centered around Dearborn's history. It is
located at 915 Brady Street, north of Michigan Avenue.
