Adored by fans of many generations, the charming pop star Rick Springfield will headline the Homecoming festival August 7-9 at Dearborn’s Ford Field Park.

The Australian-born singer/actor boasts 17 top-40 hits and 20 million records sold. He will perform at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 8 on the Main Stage at Homecoming.

Probably most famous for his 1981 chart-topper “Jessie’s Girl,” Springfield’s other song favorites are “I’ve Done Everything For You,” “Love is Alright Tonight and “Don’t Talk to Strangers.”

He is also well-known for his role as Dr. Noah Drake from 1981-83 on soap opera General Hospital. He reappeared on the daytime show in December, 2005 and guest starred over the next few years.

Although Grammy-award winner Springfield took time away from his music career to raise a family, the 80s heartthrob released his 17th album in 2008, titled “Venus In Overdrive.” It quickly became his highest charting album in more than 20 years.

This year, he released “My Precious Little One: Lullabies for a New Generation.”

In concert, Springfield and his four-piece band are true crowd pleasers playing his classics, newer originals, cover songs and anything else he knows the audience will enjoy! It’s truly a rare chance for his biggest fans as well as all festival-goers to see Springfield in concert free of charge. (He played to a packed audience at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center last year.)

Springfield is just one highlight of the 2009 Homecoming celebration, which will feature plenty of fantastic live entertainment throughout the entire weekend on several stages.

Jamming on the Main Stage on Friday night will be Larry and the Back in the Day Band. Larry Lee and his eight-piece band create a fantastic collection of funk, jazz, rock and Motown with countless covers and original songs.

Lee has quite an impressive reputation in Detroit, dating back to his days as an NFL football and player and executive, including Vice President with the Detroit Lions. After his 17-year football career, he created a band with some former members of the Temptations, Four Tops, Countours and more.

Success came quickly as the band soon began to join the stage bill with stars like Brian McKnight, Los Lobos, Chaka Khan, Gap Band, Morris Day and the Time and much more.

Lee was voted outstanding urban/funk musician of the year in 2006 by the Detroit Music Awards, and the entire band has also been nominated as the best R & B band of the year in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Another local favorite, Fifty Amp Fuse, will rock the Main Stage on Sunday night. Year after year, this stellar lineup of band members delivers high-energy shows across metro-Detroit. Come and see why the band’s following continues to grow.

Homecoming is a weekend-long celebration will also features spectacular fireworks on Saturday and Sunday nights, carnival rides, reunions, historical re-enactments, food stations, sports contests and plenty of free children’s activities.

As always, there is no admission to the Dearborn Homecoming Festival.
