Dearborn residents reminded about City ordinance rules governing door-to-door
solicitors
With the coming of warm weather, it’s probable that more door-to-door
solicitors will visit homes in Dearborn. Residents should be aware of
important information regarding door-to-door solicitations.
Dearborn ordinance requires that any door-to-door solicitor who asks
for monetary contributions must first get a City-issued identification
card. Anyone who does not is in violation of the ordinance and is guilty
of a misdemeanor.
However, residents should also be aware that door-to-door solicitors
who do not ask for money do not have to get a City-issued identification
card.
Residents encountering door-to-door solicitors who ask for money without
a City-issued ID card are encouraged to report those persons to the
Dearborn Police Department by calling 943.2001.
Residents can pick up free “no solicitation” signs for their
front doors at the Mayor’s Office in City Hall. The signs warn
solicitors that the homeowner does not want contact with any solicitors,
whether they are asking for money or not. Any solicitor who disregards
the sign is in violation of City ordinance and guilty of a misdemeanor.
