Public Service Days mean
cleaner neighborhoods in Dearborn

What you need to know about this important program

THE KEY RULE TO FOLLOW

When it comes to Public Service Days, here’s the key thing to remember: when they happen in your neighborhood, you must move your parked vehicles off of the street.

 WHAT ARE PUBLIC SERVICE DAYS?

This important program helps homeowners keep Dearborn’s neighborhoods clean and well-maintained. Public Service Days allow neighborhoods to receive concentrated doses of important City services: everything from curb-to-curb winter ice scraping and seasonal street sweeping (April – October) to tree trimming and catch basin cleaning.

Public Service Days happen twice a month on your trash pickup day: once on your trash pickup day that falls during the first full week of each month, and again on your trash pickup day two weeks later in the same month.

The first full week of the month begins with the first Monday of the month.

REQUIRED: MOVE PARKED VEHICLES OFF OF THE STREET

Remember, you are required to move parked vehicles off of the street from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the two Public Service Days a month that are scheduled for your neighborhood. (Note that the hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., not the hours listed in the 2008 City Calendar.)

It is anticipated that street signs advising vehicle owners of this rule will be installed throughout the City no later than the end of September. Once the signs are posted throughout the City, police will issue final warning notices to those who leave parked vehicles on the street during their neighborhood’s Public Service Days.

The issuing of f inal warning notices will soon be followed by police following a policy of ticketing vehicle owners who park on the street during the posted Public Service Days. Cars in violation of the Public Service Day policy may also be towed at the owner’s expense.

ARE ANY EXEMPTIONS AVAILABLE TO THE PARKING RULE?

The City’s Traffic Safety Commission has the authority to grant permits exempting vehicle owners from the requirement to move their parked vehicles off of their street during a scheduled Public Service Day.

If you want to apply for a permit for an exemption, print and complete the petition form . If you have questions about the petition or the permit process, call 943.2276.

HOW CAN I FIND THE SCHEDULE FOR PUBLIC SERVICE DAYS?

Click here for a map and schedule for Public Service Days or check out the 2008 City Calendar.

If you want to use the 2008 calendar, go to page 30, where you’ll find the Public Service Days section map. Use that to determine which section your neighborhood is in. Then you can find the dates of your section’s Public Service Days, which are listed in the daily grid for each month in the calendar.

Information about the Public Service Days schedule is also available on CDTV, the City’s official government access cable television channel. CDTV is Channel 12 on Comcast and Channel 10 on WOW! Internet . Cable . Phone.

A WORD ABOUT TRASH CONTAINERS

P lease note that existing city ordinance prohibits residents from putting trash containers in the street at any time, including your regular pickup day. All trash, yard waste and recycling must be placed on the easement. This is required on every trash pickup day, not just those that coincide with your neighborhood’s Public Service Days.
