Help get roads plowed faster: get parked vehicles off street when heavy snowfall is predicted
Dearborn residents can help get the roads plowed faster and more effectively this winter by getting parked vehicles off of the street whenever heavy snowfall is predicted.
Keeping parked vehicles off of the street allows snow plows to work faster, and more effectively and safely, since they can plow curb-to-curb instead of working around vehicles parked on the street.
Remember that when the City of Dearborn declares a snow emergency, you must remove your parked vehicles from the street or you could be ticketed and your vehicles could be towed. Police do not issue warnings.
Note that when snow plowing is needed, City ordinance allows vehicles in a driveway to be parked across the sidewalk without penalty.
A general rule the City follows is that a snow emergency may be declared when snowfall of three inches or more over a short period of time is predicted. You can check to see if a snow emergency has been declared via any of the following methods:
•Notice will be posted on www.cityofdearborn.org, and on CDTV (Channel 12 on Comcast and Channel 10 on WOW).
•You can call the snow emergency hotline at 943.2444.
•Check TV and radio stations; when a snow emergency is declared, the City contacts the media to request that it be noted in news reports.
•You may also hear the City’s emergency warning sirens go off when a snow emergency is declared.
